Streamyx now known as simply
Streamyx is the key internet service provider in Malaysia.
Streamyx is the principal wired broadband provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's major telecomunication provider , TM Bhd.
Notably TM Net offers its internet DSL(Digital Subscriber Line) broadband with the brandname
Streamyx.
TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which later transformed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was originally deployed as a trial basis between TMnet to COINS.
The earliest commercial test of xDSL by TM was done via a service known as HiS that was deployed together with Ericsson in 1999.
The original Streamyx broadband internet service was launched in April 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In 06 2007,
Streamyx commences it 4mbpsbroadband internet service which is currently, is the fastest speed available.
10 December 2009, TMNet
Streamyx introduced a new 15mbps fiber optic service under High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is estimated to be introduced by 03 2010. Right now the Malaysian internet facilities have been identified as not meeting the recent standards as essential by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype and therefore concludes that Malaysia may not ultimately harvest the full benefits of broadband internet. The HSBB or High Speed Broadband venture was formulated to enhance Malaysia internet infrastructure to that of a developed country.
